Sign Language Translator — Thoughts on Organizing science tutorials.

Posted in TechTools, That's Interesting..... at 11:36 am by

Krown Manufacturing, Inc.: Sign Language Translator.

This device makes me think of my own recording of science tutorials.  I know I need to break frameworks down into a skill set and have short video clips for each skill. For me though, it is difficult to think that way because in class, I try to pass along the fact that skills are connected and one leads to or supports the other. it would be hard to record a self contained video of one skill when it assumes knowledge of so many others ……

How do you index that? Possibly a threaded filing system? So that when one searches for a certain term or skill you can see the exact video for that skill but also see the skills, concepts and ideas that came before and are connected to it…..

I just envisioned something like one of the mind mapping tools I’ve seen before…. or something built like Prezi so that when you zoom into that part you see the hierarchy and the connections.

To the sketch pad!

End of the 1st 9-weeks…

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:12 am by

The year is already wizzing by. Next week will end the first 9-weeks grading period. All CIV classes have made their way into Unit 3. The chemistry ladies are studying atoms and electronic configuration in preparation for chemical bonding, physics students are launching canon balls into air (only virtually so far) and beginning the study of projectile motion and physical science students are learning about history and structure and of the building blocks of matter.

As for me, I also have another workshop to be preparing. I have the opportunity to present a workshop on Digital Story Telling  related to science and project based learning. This will be at the Arkansas Curriculum Conference On Nov. 5th.

I am still collecting and organizing (and grading) all of the great science careers project that were completed by students. This is the only project I have all year that spans across all my classes and it is always interesting to see the levels of growth and experience that are shown in their work on a similar project. the link to the project collection, as of now, is: http://dlcsciencelessonplans.pbworks.com/w/page/SideBar

I am sharing all of the presenataions that were completed in powerpoint on a new site (or at least new to me). The site is: http://slidesix.com/user/mrsbrisentine . I am just waiting to have time to check it out. One of the options on the site is to allow collaboration on a presenation, as well as adding narration to slides that have been uploaded (a bit like slideshare) and being able to attach resources and videos to slides.

One other new discovery while listening to a Wesley Fryer podcast this morning that I am trying is: http://multiurl.com a very clean and straight forward (for the shar-er and share-ee) link sharing site. This may  be an option for my students who are distracted by all the whistles and bells of diigo-like tools.
